Isaac Lu Added to Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Following a successful tenure at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) level, the University of San Francisco women's basketball team and Head Coach Molly Goodenbour have announced Issac Lu as an assistant coach.

"Issac returns to San Francisco, where he began his basketball and coaching career as an undergraduate practice player for our program," Goodenbour said. "Isaac is a self-starter and hard worker with a positive and encouraging demeanor. His experience as an assistant and head coach at the junior college level, his knowledge of our program, will be extremely valuable."

Lu comes to the Hilltop after spending four seasons serving as an assistant coach and head coach of the women's basketball program at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Neb. In his first season at the helm in 2022-23, Lu led the Cougars to a 21-9 overall record, a Region IX South title, and was named Region IX South Coach of the Year.

Following the season, Lu was named an honoree on the 2023 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Thirty Under 30 list, the lone NJCAA head coach to earn the award.

This past season, Lu guided the Cougars to a 25-7 record and a berth to the Region IX Tournament, making it to the quarterfinal round.

The 2021-22 season marked Lu's second season at WNCC and his first working exclusively with the women's basketball program. The Cougars finished the year with a 30-3 record and earned an at-large bid to the NJCAA National Tournament, knocking off Murray State College, Wabash Valley College, and South Plains College.

Before arriving at WNCC, Lu attended San Francisco, where he graduated in 2020 with a degree in kinesiology. Lu was an active member of the women's basketball program as he served as a team manager and a practice player from 2017-20.
