SCOUTING THE DONS:
- Splitting their matches to begin the season last week, San Francisco dropped a narrow contest, 1-0, to No. 2 Stanford on opening night as the Dons held the number two team in the nation scoreless for the first 79 minutes of action. On Sunday, the green and gold flipped the script and defeated UC San Diego, 3-1, which included the first collegiate goals from Sydney Harpster and Kaitlyn Sasadeusz. With the win over the Tritons, Pinder Nijjar also tallied his first career win as head coach.
- Despite the loss against Stanford, Kira Ybarra impressed in her 2024 debut as the graduate student logged a career-high 13 saves against the Cardinal last Thursday.
- Looking to make an immediate impact, graduate transfer Erika Braun (UC San Diego) started her first two matches as a Don last week. Additionally, freshmen Danica Lunceford, Clara Willet and Harpster all logged their first minutes in the green and gold.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES:
- Northeastern opened the 2024 season with a 1-1 tie against Boston University. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Huskies rallied back to even things up on a goal from Jessie Hunt. Eliza Teplow made a career-high five saves in the cage in the opener.
- For the first time since 2018, Northeastern will suit up in the Golden State as the Huskies will travel to California for a pair of matchups this weekend. Following their content with USF, the team will head south for a showdown at San José State on Sunday, Aug. 25.
- As a team, Northeastern was picked to finish fourth out of thirteen teams in the 20224 CAA Women's Soccer Preseaso Poll as Hunt (midfielder/5th year) was named to the Preseason All-CAA Women's Soccer Team.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS:
- Similar to San Francisco, California officially began the 2024 campaign against UC San Diego as the Golden Bears topped the Tritons, 2-1, on Thursday, Aug. 15 in Berkeley.
- Facing off against WCC opponents early on, the Golden Bears were victorious over Saint Mary's, 2-0, in an exhibition on Friday, Aug. 9 in Moraga before dropping a regular season contest at No. 22 Santa Clara, 2-1, on Sunday, Aug. 18. Prior to their machup with USF, California will host Gonzaga in Berkeley on Thursday, Aug. 22.
- Through two matches, senior Karlie Lema has netted all three goals for the Golden Bears. In the season opener against UC San Diego, the forward recorded her second-career brace before netting another goal against Santa Clara. Overall, her six shots on goal and 11 total shots also lead the team to start the year.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Thursday's meeting between San Francisco and Northeastern will mark the first meeting all-time between the two programs.
- Since 1985, California leads San Francisco in the head-to-head series with a record of 19-4-3. Last season, the Golden Bears downed the Dons, 5-1, in Berkeley on Aug. 31, 2023. In their last matchup at Negoesco Stadium, California and USF tied 1-1 on Sept. 1, 2022.
