SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Due to a late game-winning own goal, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (2-1) escaped with a narrow 1-0 victory over Northeastern (0-1-1) Thursday evening at Negoesco Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- In a scoreless first half, San Francisco put pressure on the Northeastern defense early and often as the Dons earned back-to-back corner kicks in the game's first two minutes.
- Erika Braun provided the Dons' first shot at 2:45 as she sailed a shot over the top of the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area.
- The Dons tested goalkeeper Eliza Teplow later on in the 11th minute as Natalie Drotzmann put a long-range shot on target, forcing Teplow to her right side.
- Ending the first half on a high note, Lily Loughney produced a left-footed strike that nearly found the top right corner of the goal in the 43rd minute.
- The second half remained a stalemate until the 88th minute when two Northeastern defenders failed to clear as the ball slipped into the goal, giving San Francisco a 1-0 advantage.
- Allison Kamansky began the play with a low cross into the box from the far-left side of the field, and the pressure from Alex Carpio helped push the ball into the back of the net to give the Dons the game-winner.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- San Francisco totaled 16 shots throughout the contest, with Carpio and Kaitlyn Sasadeusz combined for seven shots with two on goal.
- Kira Ybarra was tested a few times in goal as she collected three saves in 90 minutes of action.
