Ziaka Named WCC Freshman of the Week

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – After setting career highs in multiple statistical categories and guiding the University of San Francisco women's basketball team to two conference victories, Angeliki Ziaka has been named Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week, announced by the league Monday morning.

Ziaka shined in two home wins over Saint Mary's and Pepperdine, averaging 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 52.4 percent from the floor and 50 percent from beyond the three-point line.

In the win over Saint Mary's on Thursday, Jan. 2, Ziaka scored a career-high 22 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Finding success from the three-point line against the Gaels, she connected on six of her nine attempts, nearly breaking the USF single-game record of nine set back in 2021.

Continuing her dominance in the win over Pepperdine on Saturday, Jan 4, Ziaka added nine points and six assists in 22 minutes of work.

Remaining active on the defensive end throughout the two contests, she added a game-high two blocks and two steals in the double-digit victory over the Gaels and two steals against the Waves.

For San Francisco, this weekly award marks the third for the team this season.
