CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The University of San Francisco women's basketball team (8-7, 5-1 WCC) dropped a low-scoring affair at Oregon State (7-9, 4-2 WCC), 64-57, Thursday evening at Gill Coliseum.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Oregon State began the game on a 7-2 run, with Emma Trawally Ports scoring the lone basket for San Francisco at the 7:56 mark of the first quarter.
- Trailing 10-5 at 5:08, the Dons tied the game following a 5-0 scoring run capped off with a Luana Leite driving layup.
- Trading baskets throughout the remaining five minutes, the Beavers took a 15-13 lead into the second quarter, with Kelsey Rees scoring the final field goal at 1:35.
- Angeliki Ziaka opened the scoring in the second quarter, connecting on a driving layup to tie the game at 15 with 27 seconds off the clock. The two teams continued to trade baskets throughout the quarter as the game remained tied at 25 following a Cami Fulcher straight-away three-pointer at the 6:22 mark of the period.
- Trailing 30-29, Mia Vukšic gave the Dons the lead just over one minute before the halftime break with a long three-point basket for a 32-20 advantage. The Beavers responded with 36 seconds left as Kennedie Shuler tied the game at 32 with a driving layup.
- Coming out strong in the second half, San Francisco regained the lead and expanded it to six, 40-34, following an 8-2 scoring run three minutes into the third quarter. Freja Werth and Fulcher led the charge, combining for two three-pointers, while Trawally Porta added a second-chance layup to guide the team.
- The Dons continued to lead, pushing the margin to nine, 46-37, after Werth knocked down a corner three and Fulcher recorded one free throw at 4:05.
- The Beavers gained momentum shortly after, finishing the third quarter on an 11-0 run, and took a 48-46 lead into the fourth quarter after two made free throws from Catarina Ferreira with four seconds left.
- Oregon State dominated the fourth quarter, holding San Francisco scoreless until the 4:27 mark. Trawally Porta broke the Dons' scoring drought with a wide-open three-pointer to cut the deficit to 53-49.
- Keeping the pressure on, the Beavers held the Dons to just 11 fourth-quarter points and cruised to the seven-point victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Werth led San Francisco in scoring, posting 18 points in 36 minutes. She connected on four of her nine three-point attempts and was a perfect four-for-four at the free-throw line.
- Trawally Porta posted her third double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
- Fulcher broke out, scoring in double figures for the first time this season with 17 points on 50 percent (six-for-12) shooting. Fulcher also had four three-pointers and grabbed a season-best six rebounds.
- As a team, San Francisco recorded a season-low six turnovers while forcing Oregon State into 16. The Dons led in fastbreak points (11-7) and points off turnovers (13-8).
