Dons Defeat Tigers on the Road in Four Sets

STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (3-13, 1-5) returned to the win column Saturday evening with a 3-1 victory at Pacific (7-10, 1-5) at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • San Francisco took control early in the first set, jumping out to a 7-1 advantage. Shannon Knight and Taylor Mendez registered kills throughout the scoring run while Jamie Low added two service aces.
  • The Dons led by as many as nine points during the frame and cruised to a 25-16 first-set win.
  • The Tigers tied the match at a set apiece shortly after, winning the second frame 25-17. San Francisco trailed by as many as eight points during the set as Pacific secured the lead for good at 11-10.
  • San Francisco emerged victorious in the third set, 25-18, to regain the lead in the match. The Dons never trailed during the frame, leading by as many as seven points.
  • Leading 20-17 near the back half of the set, kills from Astrid Puig, Emilija Arsic, and Crystal Galaviz helped secure the frame for the green and gold.
  • Keeping the momentum heading into the fourth set, San Francisco used a 6-0 scoring run to take control at 11-7.
  • Leading 23-21 late in the deciding frame, Maeve Bailey compiled a kill and a solo block to solidify the set and match for the Dons, 25-21.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Galaviz led San Francisco offensively, registering a career-high 18 kills while swinging at a .333 clip. Puig also added double-digit kills with 13 to help guide the team on the offensive end.
  • Andrea Fabikovicová posted a double-double with a team-high 36 assists and 14 digs.
  • Abby Wadas led the backline for the Dons with 16 digs while Madison McPherson added a career-best 10.
  • As team, San Francisco outpaced Pacific in kills (51-49), blocks (7-5), and digs (57-50).

UP NEXT:
San Francisco returns to action in the Pacific Northwest at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16 when it takes on Portland at Chiles Center.
