Cargol Scores 20 Points, Dons Fall to Pirates at Home

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Led by Aina Cargol's 20 points, the University of San Francisco women's basketball team (1-2) dropped an 80-66 nonconference decision to Seton Hall (2-0) Friday evening at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
 
Along with her 20-point performance, Cargol added three assists to lead the Dons. Candy Edokpaigbe added offense support with 11 points and five steals, and Nataša Taušová chipped in with 13 points and two steals coming off the bench.
 
The green and gold took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 14 of its 21 points in the paint.
 
Defensively, San Francisco forced 25 turnovers throughout the contest, with Edokpaigbe recording a season-best five steals.
 
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • San Francisco struggled out of the gate, falling behind 17-6 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Dons continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 39-15 halftime deficit.
  • Following halftime, San Francisco kept Seton Hall from growing its advantage before going on a 13-0 run, punctuated by a three from Edokpaigbe, to trim its deficit to 43-32 with 6:11 to go.
  • Seton Hall countered and stretched its lead to 58-45 heading into the fourth. San Francisco knocked down five three-pointers in the quarter to score 15 of its 30 total points.
  • Seton Hall kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 80-59 advantage before San Francisco went on a 7-0 run, finished off by a Taušová layup, to shrink the deficit to 80-66 with 1:18 to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • For the second time in three games this season, a San Francisco player has posted 20 or more points, with Cargol registering a game-high 20. Shooting 58.3 percent (seven-of-12) from the field, she also matched Taušová with two made three-pointers.

San Francisco returns to action at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, when it hosts UC San Diego at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
