SAN BRUNO, Calif. – After two impressive performances at home last week, Aina Cargol has been named West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week, announced by the league on Monday morning.
In two games on the Hilltop last week against Seton Hall and UC San Diego, Cargol averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. She broke out offensively against Seton Hall on Friday, Nov. 14, scoring a career-high 20 points on 58.3 percent (seven-for-12) shooting, while adding three rebounds and three assists.
She followed with 11 points and a career-best six assists in San Francisco's 80-69 victory over UC San Diego on Sunday, Nov. 16. She connected on 57.1 percent (four-for-seven) of her shots against the Tritons, including knocking down two of her five attempts from the three-point line.
Active on the defensive side of the ball, Cargol added six total defensive rebounds, two steals, and her first-career block throughout the two contests.
For San Francisco, this weekly award marks the third for the team this season.
