PALM DESERT, Calif. - The University of San Francisco men's basketball team (5-3) could not find its rhythm in the second half on Friday afternoon as the Dons fell to Nevada (5-3), 81-65, in the consolation game of the Acrisure Holiday Classic.
The Dons had three players score in double figures, led by David Fuchs, who finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Mookie Cook added 12 points off the bench, and Junjie Wang tallied 10 points for the green and gold.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- After playing to a 34-34 tie, San Francisco went on a 5-0 run with 56 seconds left in the opening half, culminating in a three-pointer from Guillermo Diaz Graham, to take a 39-34 lead. The Dons then surrendered that advantage and entered halftime down one, 38-37.
- San Francisco could not gather any momentum at the break, falling short in the second half. San Francisco got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 17 of its 28 total points, but Nevada held on for the 81-65 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- USF shared the ball efficiently, recording an assist on 74 percent of made field goals.
- The San Francisco bench made an impact by accounting for 30 of USF's 65 points.
- The Dons finished with a 34-29 rebounding advantage. San Francisco was strong on the offensive glass, collecting 12 offensive boards in the game. Fuchs led the team with nine rebounds, including three offensive boards.
- Fuchs finished in double figures for the fifth time in eight games this season, while Wang finished in double figures for the second straight game.
