Five Finish in Double Figures, Dons Rout Bears at Home

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco men's basketball team (8-5) used a balanced attack in its final nonconference game of the season as five Dons scored in double figures to rout Morgan State (2-10), 94-64, at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Dons were led by David Fuchs, who finished with a career-high 23 points to go along with two rebounds and two steals. Legend Smiley tacked on 15 points off the bench while Mookie Cook chipped in as well with 14 points.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • After falling behind 11-4, San Francisco went on a 6-0 run with 13:55 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Guillermo Diaz Graham, to narrow its deficit to 11-10. The Dons then closed the rest of the gap and grabbed a 42-28 lead heading into the break. San Francisco got a great contribution from its bench in the opening frame, as non-starters accounted for 18 of its 42 total points.
  • Following halftime, USF kept widening the gap, expanding its lead to 85-60 before going on a 7-0 run to grow the advantage to 92-60 with 1:40 to go in the contest. The Bears narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Dons still cruised the rest of the way for the 94-64 victory. San Francisco took care of business in the paint, recording 28 of its 52 points in the lane.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Tyrone Riley IV notched his first double-double of the season in the win, finishing with 10 points (4-9 FG/2-2 FT) and a game-high 10 rebounds in 24 total minutes.
  • San Francisco never trailed in the second half on its way to victory, leading by as many as 34 points in the final 20 minutes.
  • The Dons recorded 16 total assists in the game. USF took care of business in the paint, recording 28 of its 52 points in the lane.
  • Five San Francisco players scored 10 or more points: Fuchs (23), Cook (14), Smiley (15), Riley IV (10), and Ryan Beasley (10). The USF bench made an impact by scoring 53 points in its scoring output.
