PALM DESERT, Calif. - Total Sports Consulting announced today that the San Francisco men's basketball program will compete in the 2025 Acrisure Series, which will be hosted at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert from Tuesday, Nov. 25 through Friday, Nov. 28.
San Francisco will compete against a loaded field in Southern California as the competition includes California Baptist, Colorado, Loyola Chicago, Minnesota, Nevada, Northern Iowa, San Diego, San José State, Santa Clara, Stanford, Tulsa, Utah and Washington.
"Our program is thrilled to be participating in the Acrisure Series in Palm Desert this November," said head coach Chris Gerlufsen. "We are currently building out an ultra-competitive nonconference slate for our 2025-26 team and this tournament's field adds some great opponents to that schedule. I look forward to competing in this top-notch MTE in front of our fans in Southern California."
The schedule for the tournament is still being finalized as pods and matchups will be announced at a later date. All games will air live on TNT Sports, truTV or MAX.
For San Francisco, this will mark the fifth straight year in which the program will participate in an MTE (multi-team event) during Thanksgiving week. In 2021, the Dons were crowned champions of the Las Vegas Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev., which was followed up by being crowned champions of the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City in 2022. Last season, San Francisco fell to Clemson (70-55) in their opening game of the Sunshine Slam before taking down Fordham (85-64) to finish in third place in the tournament.
Overall, San Francisco finished 25-10 in 2024-25, which included a 13-5 record and third-place finish in conference play. Notably, USF eclipsed 20+ wins for the eighth straight full season (excluding the 2020-21 COVID shortened season) in addition to notching ten or more conference victories for the third time in four years. Heading into his fourth year at the helm, Gerlufsen aims to build on back-to-back appearances in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) as San Francisco has reached the postseason in two of his three years as head coach of the Dons.
San Francisco is set to return 2024-25 WCC All-Freshman selection Tyrone Riley IV in addition to 2023-24 WCC Freshman of the Year Ryan Beasley.
