SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Head coach Chris Gerlufsen and the University of San Francisco men's basketball program announced today the signing of forward David Fuchs (Vienna, Austria/Rhode Island).
"We are thrilled with David Fuchs' decision to sign with the University of San Francisco for 2025-26," said Gerlufsen. "David has a rare combination of skill and power, and fans will love the passion he brings to the floor every night. David will provide an immediate boost on the glass, as he ranked first in the Atlantic 10 and 17th nationally in defensive rebounding percentage. The staff and I can't wait to get him to campus this summer!"
Originally from Vienna, Austria, Fuchs spent the past two seasons at Rhode Island. Overall, the 6'9" forward started in 23 of his 54 appearances for the Rams as he averaged 7.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game under head coach Archie Miller.
In 2024-25, Fuchs appeared in 29 games for Rhode Island as he averaged 7.4 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game on 58.7 percent shooting from the field. Within the Atlantic 10, he finished third in the conference in rebounds per game as well as sixth in total rebounds (218) and eighth in offensive rebounds (64). Notably, he also logged three double doubles this past season.
During his freshman season in 2023-24, Fuchs appeared in 25 games for the Rams, which included 23 starts as he averaged 8.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He earned his first honor at the collegiate level on Feb. 26, 2024 when he was named Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Week. Fuchs made his debut for Rhode Island with 10 points and four rebounds against Central Connecticut State on Nov. 6, 2023.
Prior to his stop in Kingston, Fuchs had significant experience playing in European professional leagues as he suited up for Ratiopharm Ulm and OrangeAcademy in Germany.
Fuchs joins Mookie Cook as the second member of San Francisco's 2025-26 recruiting class.
