Aina Cargol Joins Women's Basketball Program

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team and Head Coach Molly Goodenbour have officially announced the addition of Aina Cargol for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

Cargol, a freshman guard from La Vall de Bianya, Spain, joins the program on the Hilltop after spending time with Spar Girona of Liga Femenina de Baloncesto and the Spanish national team.

In limited time with Girona, Cargol appeared in eight games during the 2024-25 campaign and scored a season-best eight points in a 108-59 rout of Celta Zorka on December 1, 2024. In 10 minutes of action, she connected on two of her three attempts from three-point range and knocked down two free throws.

In one Euro Cup game on October 29, 2024, she scored five points on 50 percent shooting and recorded two assists and three steals against Les Foxes.

On the national stage, Cargol competed in the U16 FIBA Women's European Championship in 2023 and registered 7.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in seven games, guiding Spain to a silver medal. Posting back-to-back double-digit scoring performances in the knockout stage and pushing Las Guerreras to the gold medal match, Cargol combined for 24 points, 12 assists, and four steals in the quarterfinals and semifinals against Hungary and Finland.

Returning for the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup in 2024, Cargol teamed up with fellow San Francisco signee Noelia Mouriño Freira and guided Spain to a third-place finish. Beginning the tournament on a high note, she recorded a team-high 22 points, six rebounds, and nine assists in the opening contest in a dominating 99-29 win over Argentina on July 13, 2024.
