SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (2-8) concluded its nonconference slate Saturday afternoon as it dropped a 3-1 decision to San Jose State (5-6) at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Despite a solid hitting performance, San Francisco dropped the opening set to San Jose State 25-23 to fall behind early in the match. The Dons swung at a high rate throughout the frame, totaling a .342 hitting percentage.
- Facing set point at 24-17, the Dons battled back with six straight points, trimming the deficit to one, 24-23. Hannah Taylor led the green and gold throughout the scoring run, recording three kills and a solo block. Shannon Knight added a kill and a solo block, while Astrid Puig contributed with a kill from the right side.
- The Spartans, however, regained control and posted the final point of the frame to earn the early lead, 25-23.
- In a back-and-forth second set, San Francisco trailed late as San Jose State pushed its lead to three, 23-20. The Dons scored six of the final seven points, highlighted by three kills from Taylor to pull even at a set apiece, 26-24.
- The Spartans jumped all over the Dons in the third set, winning 25-17, before earning the match victory with a 25-22 fourth-set win.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Taylor registered a match-high 15 kills while swinging at a .382 clip. Puig added another double-digit kill performance, finishing the match with 12.
- Emilija Arsic nearly recorded a double-double with six kills and a season-best nine digs. In the last three matches, Arsic has totaled a combined 23 digs.
- San Francisco attackers were guided by a match-high 33 assists from Andrea Fabikovicová as she reached 30 or more assists in a match for the first time since totaling 32 against Long Beach State on September 6.
