SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco (USF) men's soccer team (5-2-1, 0-1-1 WCC) hosted Oregon State (5-3-0, 1-0-0 WCC) for the first time ever on the Hilltop on Thursday night, but the Dons could not complete their second half-comeback as the Beavers secured a 2-1 win at Negoesco Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Oregon State opened the scoring when Lucas Fernandez-Kim scored in the 20th minute, when Fran Cortijo and Iker Carbonell found the midfielder inside the box before he headed home the first .
- The Beavers extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Arnau Farnos in the 57th minute, assisted by Nico Nee and Fabian Straudi.
- San Francisco closed the gap to 2-1 on David Raphael's 73rd-minute goal, his third of the season.
- USF went on to outshoot Oregon State, 15-8, in the second half, but it would not be enough to even the score down the stretch as the Beavers hung on to pick up the 2-1 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Lucas Jones totaled five saves for the Dons out of 10 total Beavers shots.
- San Francisco tallied 23 shots for the second match in a row, tying a season-high.
- Kaleb Afsari recorded seven shots for San Francisco, marking a new career-high. Afsari was one of six Dons to record at least two shots on the night: Afsari (7), Brayden Beason (4), Matthew Duggan (3), Raphael (2), Ben Norris (2), and Jaggar Judkins (2).
