San Francisco Falls at Gonzaga in Five-Set Thriller

SPOKANE, Wash. – Hannah Taylor and Astrid Puig registered double-digit kills as the University of San Francisco volleyball team (2-10, 0-2) dropped a five-set thriller at Gonzaga (8-5, 1-1) Saturday afternoon at Charlotte Y. Martin Centre.

- Battling back from a 15-9 deficit in the first set, San Francisco trimmed Gonzaga's advantage to one, 18-17, following an 8-3 scoring run. Puig and Taylor spearheaded the Dons offensively, totaling a combined five kills.
- The Dons gained their first lead in the opening frame late, 26-25, on an Abby Wadas service ace. Taylor followed with a final kill to secure the set, 27-25.
- The Bulldogs controlled the pace of play in the second frame and evened the match at a set apiece, 25-17. The Dons never led in the set as the Zags' lead grew to as much as 10.
- Regaining the lead in the third set, San Francisco jumped out to a five-point margin, 13-8, after winning four straight points. The Dons cruised throughout the set, winning five of the final six points for a 25-18 victory.
- Leading 22-18, Andrea Fabikovicová registered a kill and a service ace in back-to-back points to extend the advantage, 23-18. A Bulldog attack error and a Taylor kill followed to solidify the set for the green and gold.
- Gonzaga battled back in the fourth set, sending the match to a deciding fifth set with a 25-20 win. The Bulldogs then erased a seven-point deficit in the fifth frame and won the final three points to secure the set and match, 16-14.
- Fabikovicová nearly recorded a triple-double with seven kills, 22 assists, and 14 digs.
- Taylor led the team in kills with 14, while Puig reached double-digit kills for the seventh time this season.
- Wadas led the back line with 16 of the Dons' 52 digs.
- As a team defensively, the green and gold recorded 16 blocks, the fifth double-digit block total this season. The Dons fell one block short of tying the season high of 17 set against San Jose State on September 17.
