DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • San Francisco looks to get back in the win column this weekend as the Dons are currently on a two-game skid, having dropped both road games this past week. Last time out on the floor, USF fell short, 88-73, at Santa Clara on Wednesday night. After a close first half that saw the green and gold trail just by three at the break, the Broncos scored 54 points in the second half, tying an opponent season-high in a half for the Dons, which proved to be enough to secure the victory for SCU.
  • A bright spot for the Dons on Wednesday night was Guillermo Diaz Graham, who led the team with a season-high 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds and a career-high-tying five assists in 29 minutes off the bench.
  • Continuing to excel on the glass, San Francisco has outrebounded its opponent in all but two games of conference play, including each of the last three games. Within WCC play, the Dons rank second in the league in rebounds per game (38.9), third in offensive rebounding (11.7), and fourth in rebound margin (6.2).
  • With an 8-2 record at home this season, USF will play five of its remaining eight conference games in San Francisco, as the Dons look to climb back into the top four in the WCC standings with one month left in league action. In these ten games at War Memorial, four Dons are averaging double figures: Ryan Beasley (13.9), Mookie Cook (12.9), David Fuchs (11.2), and Tyrone Riley IV (10.1).
SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
  • In its second season under head coach Dave Smart, Pacific is on pace for its best season in six years as the Tigers currently sit at fourth place in the WCC, one spot ahead of USF with a 6-4 record in conference action. After dropping their first two games of WCC play, the Tigers have won six of their last eight matchups, currently riding a three-game win streak.
  • Last time out, Pacific finished off a two-game home stand with a dominant 74-51 victory over Portland on Wednesday night. Four of Pacific's five starters scored in double figures, led by UC San Diego transfer guard Justin Rochelin's 17 points and 11 rebounds. After averaging just 6.1 points per game in nonconference action, Rochelin has stepped up for Pacific in WCC play, averaging 13.3 points on 51.8 percent shooting from the field in league games.
  • Fifth-year forward Elias Ralph has been leading the charge for the Tigers' offense this season as the Canadian native is leading the team with 16.4 points (sixth in WCC) and 6.7 rebounds (fifth in WCC) per game this season on 47.1/39.3/87.8 shooting splits.
  • It will be a battle on the glass on Saturday night as Pacific has been a force on the boards in conference play, leading the league in both offensive rebounds per game (12.8) and rebound margin (10.6), while also ranking in the top three in rebounding (third, 38.1) and opponent rebounds per game (second, 27.5). Notably, the Tigers have won the rebounding battle in all ten of their games in WCC play so far, ranking 11th in the nation in rebound margin overall at +9.8.
  • As a unit, Pacific also ranks second in the conference in opponent field goal percentage (41.6) and three-point percentage (37.6) within league play. However, the Dons will look to attack from beyond the arc as the Tigers are allowing their opponents to shoot 36.7 percent from three-point range in conference action, the third-highest opponent three-point percentage in the WCC within conference play.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Saturday night will mark the 117th all-time meeting between San Francisco and Pacific, with the Dons holding an 84-32 lead in the all-time series. USF has won each of its last eight contests against Pacific, with Chris Gerlufsen being a perfect 7-0 against the Tigers as head coach of the Dons. Since Pacific rejoined the WCC in 2013, San Francisco is 8-1 against the Tigers on the Hilltop, with its lone defeat coming on Feb. 6, 2020 (L, 60-48), which saw current Detroit Piston Daniss Jenkins and current Phoenix Sun Jamaree Bouyea go head-to-head. The two programs will meet again in the regular season finale on Feb. 28 in Stockton.
