Fuchs' Career-High Powers Dons Past Tigers

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco (USF) men's basketball team (14-10, 6-5 WCC) got back in the win column with a gritty win on Saturday night as David Fuchs poured in a career-high 30 points to power the Dons past Pacific (15-9, 6-5 WCC), 87-82, at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.

Fuchs added nine rebounds and two steals to his 30-point game to lead the Dons, while Ryan Beasley helped out with eight points, 11 assists (career-high), and three steals. Tyrone Riley IV chipped in with 16 points, six rebounds, and two blocks.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • With each team trading baskets out of the gates, San Francisco went on a 5-0 run with 8:52 left in the first half, culminating in a three-pointer from Fuchs, to increase its lead to 25-16. The Dons then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 35-32 advantage. San Francisco did most of its damage in the opening period in the paint, scoring 18 of its 35 points close to the basket.
  • Coming out of the halftime break, USF kept its lead intact before going on an 8-0 run to grow its lead to 48-39 with 14:21 to go in the contest. The Tigers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the green and gold held on to secure the 87-82 win. San Francisco pushed the tempo in the second frame, scoring 11 fast break points.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Beasley orchestrated the offense for San Francisco by recording a career-high 11 assists for USF, with the Dons finishing with 15 total assists as a team. Defensively, the San Ramon native logged three steals for the fifth time this season.
  • Fuchs finished with a game-high nine rebounds to go along with two steals and one assist in 28 total minutes. Overall, the forward shot 11-of-18 from the floor, 1-of-2 from beyond the arc, and 7-of-9 from the free throw line.
  • Legend Smiley (11 points) and Junjie Wang (11 points) rounded out the double-figure scorers for USF, with Smiley finishing in double figures for the ninth time this season while Wang tallied his seventh game with 10 or more points.
  • Riley IV tied his season-high with two blocks against the Tigers while also finishing in double figures for the 15th time this year.
  • San Francisco turned the ball over just seven times against Pacific, marking its lowest turnover total since Jan. 13 against Saint Mary's (9). As a unit, the Dons led the Tigers in points off turnovers (15-9) and fast break points (14-9).
