SAN FRANCISCO – University of San Francisco Director of Athletics Brent Blaylock has appointed Tim Miguel as the athletic department's Associate Athletic Director of Communications. Miguel will oversee communications, broadcast and creative content for the Dons' sports programs.
Miguel brings two decades of collegiate athletics communications experience spanning both from campus athletics departments and at the conference level.
Â
"Tim came highly recommended from my network at the local and national level, and it quickly became clear why. He brings an outstanding combination of experience and a genuine passion for working directly with coaches and student-athletes. His time at Cal and the West Coast Conference gives him a deep understanding of both our market and league, and the strong relationships he has built with the media will boost how we tell the USF Athletics story. Tim's creativity and expertise will be at the forefront as we elevate how we communicate and build meaningful connections."
Â
Miguel most recently worked at the West Coast Conference since January of 2022, serving as the Director of Communications. Miguel was the communications contact for many sports including men's basketball, baseball, volleyball, men's soccer and women's soccer. He coordinated promotional efforts for WCC men's basketball as a multi-bid league in the NCAA Tournament, and the conference boasted three teams in the tournament on two occasions and was a multi-bid league every year during his tenure. Miguel also served as the media coordinator for numerous conference championships, including the men's and women's basketball championship. He coordinated with national and local media as well as working closely with television broadcast partners in the promoting the conference's championships and sports programs.
Â
Miguel also highlighted the coaches and student-athletes of the WCC through creative content like written features, and he worked in collaboration with the conference's social media team for the production and distribution of video features and graphics content. Â
Â
"I'm thrilled to join the team here at USF, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Brent and the fantastic leadership team, head coaches, student-athletes and administrators here," Miguel said. "I'm looking forward to telling the stories of our sports programs and amplifying the USF brand through various channels. I'm excited to bring my knowledge of campus experience and background from previously being a part of the West Coast Conference to promote USF Athletics to the full extent."
Â
Prior to joining the WCC, Miguel spent 15 years at the University of California, Berkeley, beginning as a media relations intern before being promoted fulltime to an assistant communications director. While at Cal, Miguel spent a combined 11 years serving as a communications director for football or men's basketball. Miguel worked with a nationally-ranked Cal men's basketball team that went to multiple NCAA Tournaments and won a conference regular-season championship. He worked with high-profile athletes on the Cal football team like former NFL standout Marshawn Lynch and current Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, assisting with athletic department efforts to promote them for national recognition and managing media requests from national and local media.
A Bay Area native, Miguel earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from San Diego State University.
Miguel's first day at USF was on Sept. 28.
