Lions Outduel Dons on Thursday Night

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team (16-12, 9-8) dropped a hard-fought 66-57 decision to LMU (20-8, 14-3) in the final regular-season home game Thursday evening at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
 
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • After falling behind 8-6 early in the first quarter, San Francisco went on a 9-0 scoring run, capped off with a Mara Neira driving layup, to take a 15-8 lead with 1:10 remaining. LMU responded shortly after, scoring five of the last seven points to trim the deficit to 17-13.
  • The Lions outscored the Dons by 10, 17-7, in the second quarter and held a 30-24 advantage at the halftime break.
  • San Francisco started to cut into the deficit after halftime, bringing the game to 41-40 by the end of the third quarter. San Francisco played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.
  • The Lions widened the margin in the fourth quarter, pushing their lead to six, 55-49, with 4:40 left in the contest. The green and gold battled back, getting to within one, 55-54, following back-to-back baskets from Noelia Mouriño and Neira.
  • The Lions' lead quickly ballooned to nine, 64-55, with 35 seconds left, and held on for the 66-57 victory. 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Neira led San Francisco offensively, posting a game-high 18 points on seven-of16 shooting. She also led the Dons from beyond the three-point line, knocking down four of her 10 attempts from distance.
  • Candy Edokpaigbe also paced the green and gold on both ends of the floor, recording 15 points, nine rebounds, and three steals.
  • In her final game on the Hilltop, Olivia Williams posted six points and six rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.
  • San Francisco recorded 14 assists throughout the contest, with Aina Cargol recording a team-best four, and outrebounded LMU, 45-42.
