LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The University of San Francisco (USF) men's basketball team (17-15, 8-10 WCC) jumped out to an early lead on Saturday night, but Oregon State (17-15, 9-9 WCC) fought back to squeeze out a one-point victory, 78-77, in the 2026 Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference (WCC) Championship Quarterfinals.
The Dons had four players score in double figures, led by Tyrone Riley IV, who had a game-high 23 points, four assists, and three steals. Ryan Beasley added 19 points, seven assists, and four steals, and Legend Smiley chipped in as well with 18 points and two steals.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco started the game by scoring the first 11 points, culminating in a bucket from Junjie Wang, to take an early 11-0 lead at the 14:05 mark. Moving closer with each possession, Oregon State fought back in the minutes to follow, cutting their deficit to four points, 17-13, with 8:19 left in the first half.
- Riley IV then rallied the green and gold with a personal 7-0 run of his own, putting USF back in front by 11 points, 24-13, at 7:19. However, Oregon State punched back again as the Beavers made it a two-point game, 32-30, heading into the locker room.
- Coming out of the break, Oregon State scored eight of the half's first 11 points to take a 38-35 lead, but San Francisco countered with a 6-0 run to grab the lead back, 41-38, with 16:54 to go in the contest. The Beavers reasserted control near the halfway mark of the second half, taking a 45-44 advantage following a layup from Josiah Lake II at 13:35.
- Oregon State would not relinquish its lead for the rest of the night, as the Dons were only able to tie the game at 63-all after a jumper from David Fuchs with 5:07 remaining. Following a pair of free throws from Lake II that put the Beavers up nine points, 73-64, at 1:25, San Francisco made a push for one final comeback. Free throws from Beasley and a three-pointer from Riley IV as time expired gave the Dons a chance, but the Beavers squeezed out the victory to advance to the WCC Championship Semifinals.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- David Fuchs notched his ninth double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
- Riley IV, Beasley, and Smiley combined to account for 78 percent (60 points) of San Francisco's points. USF shared the ball well as a team, recording an assist on 64 percent of made field goals. Leading the game in scoring, Riley IV eclipsed 20 points for the third time this season on Sunday.
- Smiley tied his career-high with 18 points against the Beavers as the freshman knocked down a new career-high six triples on a career-high eight attempts from beyond the arc.
- The San Francisco defense caused its share of mistakes this evening, forcing 14 Oregon State turnovers while committing nine. Those takeaways turned into 14 points on the offensive end of the floor. Beasley's season-high four steals led the way individually for the Dons.
- San Francisco cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 15 offensive boards in the game, five of which came from Fuchs.
