
Women's Basketball Signs Polish Standout Guard Maria Burliga

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team and Head Coach Molly Goodenbour have announced the signing of Maria Burliga for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
"Maria is an excellent athlete and great defender," Goodenbour said. "She is one of the top young players in Poland, competing in high-level tournaments last summer. We expect her to make an immediate impact with our young team."
Burliga, a freshman guard from Krakow, Poland, enters her first collegiate season on the Hilltop following a career at MB Zagłębie Sosnowiec of the Orlen Basket Liga Kobiet.
During the 2025-26 season, Burliga ranked third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.2 points per game while shooting 61.5 percent from the field in 26 contests. Along with her scoring, she totaled 6.8 rebounds per game, 37 steals, and a team-best 44 blocks.
In the 2025-26 EuroCup Women with MB Zagłębie Sosnowiec, Burliga appeared in 10 games and scored a tournament-high nine points on 50 percent shooting and seven rebounds against Baxi Ferrol, on November 26, 2025. In 15 career EuroCup Women games, she averaged 3.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game.
On the national stage, Burliga recently scored 12 points and secured a game-high nine rebounds in Poland's dominant 90-48 victory over Cyprus in the FIBA Women's EuroBasket Qualifiers on March 17.
Previously in the 2025 FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket in La Palma, Spain, Burliga averaged an impressive 13.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game and led the Biało Czerwone to a fifth-place team finish.
In the Round of 16 contest against Slovenia, she dominated with a 23-point, 12-rebound double-double, and shot 55.6 percent from the field in the 67-65 victory. She also faced off against new collegiate teammates Aina Cargol and Noelia Mouriño, Buliga recorded six points and two rebounds in Poland's Group Phase defeat to Spain on July 7, 2025.
