Yvan Trevino Named New Assistant Women's Soccer Coach

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco (USF) women's soccer program and interim head coach Alexis Mata announced today the hiring of Yvan Trevino as assistant coach.
"Once a Don, always a Don, said Mata. "Yvan's journey has come full circle - graduating from USF to a standout coaching career at one of the Bay Area's premier youth clubs, and now back home to give back to the program and community that shaped him. We couldn't be more excited to have him on staff."
Trevino comes to the Hilltop after serving as the girls' technical director for Bay Area Surf Soccer Club since 2023. With the club, he led long-term player development strategies for the ECNL girls' program, guiding 71 athletes into collegiate soccer pathways since fall 2022. Overseeing club methodology, coach mentorship, and performance standards, Trevino guided 20-plus athletes onto national team and identification platforms. Notably, over 60 percent of his ECNL teams qualified for the ECNL Champions League playoffs. He also served as a senior head coach for the club from 2022 until 2023.
"Returning to the place that shaped me is more than a career move," said Trevino. "It is a chance to give back to a community that believed in me, challenged me, and helped me become who I am today. I am grateful to be coming home to USF."
Trevino is also the founder and program director of 1v1 Training, LLC, an elite soccer training program serving over 300 athletes. Of this group, 15-plus athletes have transitioned into professional environments.
He has also been an assistant coach at a handful of other stops, including for the women's soccer team at Skyline College (2022-2025) and as the USL W assistant coach for the San Francisco Glens (2023-2024).
At the high school level, Trevino served as the head coach for the girls' varsity soccer program at Menlo School in Atherton, Calif., from 2017 to 2018. He was the junior varsity boys' soccer coach at Menlo from 2020 to 2023.
Trevino graduated from USF in 2011 with a B.S. in Business Administration, with a concentration in International Business. He also holds a Master of Science in Kinesiology from Fresno Pacific University, as well as an associate degree in business administration from Cañada College. Trevino also earned his USSF National "B" coaching license.
