Dons Sweep Roadrunners in Home Opener

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (2-2) returned to the win column on Tuesday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep in the home opener over CSU Bakersfield (2-2) at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED:
- In a tightly contested first set, San Francisco pulled away with a 7-3 scoring run to push its lead late to 20-14. Holding the advantage throughout the remainder of the frame, the Dons used kills from Petra Fritz and Anica Bobic to guide the team to a 25-18 first-set victory.
- CSU Bakersfield jumped out to an early lead in the second set, winning six of the first eight points for a 6-2 advantage. San Francisco erased its deficit shortly after, using a 5-1 scoring run to tie the frame at seven.
- With the set tied at 17, the green and gold secured the set with eight of the following nine points for a 25-18 win. Katariina Korhonen led the team during the scoring run, recording four kills, including the final point to secure the set.
- San Francisco took the third frame to win the match in straight sets with a dominating 25-16 decision. The Dons took the lead for good at 12-11 in a set that showcased two lead changes. The team hit .300 over the course of the set and was boosted by service aces from Jordan Smart, Adelynn Legates, and Fritz.
- Korhonen and Fritz posted double-digit kills to help pace the Dons offensively. Korhonen led the team with 13 kills while Fritz contributed 12.
- Smart and Legates recorded their first double-doubles of the season, with Smart totaling 15 assists and a team-high 11 digs while Legates added 14 assists and 10 digs.
- As a team, San Francisco totaled a .320 hitting percentage, the highest by the program in a match this season. Four players hit over .300, with Korhonen recording a season-best .423.
