Korhonen Records Double-Double, Dons Rally Past Rebels

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (5-5) salvaged the final match of The Ridge Invitational and earned a come-from-behind victory over UNLV (1-7) in five sets on Sunday at Premier America Credit Union Arena.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco staged the comeback beginning in the third set after dropping the first two frames of the match. Tied at five at the start of the frame, the green and gold used a 6-1 scoring run to take a five-point lead, 11-6. The Dons held their advantage through the remainder of the set, extending the lead to six with a 25-19 set win.
- In the fourth set, San Francisco jumped ahead midway through and gained a 15-11 edge. The Dons never relinquished the lead and tied the match two sets apiece with a narrow 25-21 victory.
- With the fifth set tied at six, a Rebel attack error and a Piper Justiss service ace gave the Dons an 8-6 edge. The margin ballooned to four later in the frame as Petra Fritz recorded two kills to give the Dons a 13-9 lead.
- Holding on, San Francisco recorded two of the final three points, highlighted by kills from Fritz and Emma Neukirchen to secure the 15-12 fifth-set win and complete the reverse sweep.
- Katariina Korhonen recorded a second-straight double-double with 14 kills and a season-best 19 digs to guide San Francisco. Korhonen also tied Maeve Bailey with a team-high three block assists.
- Fritz led the team with 21 kills and recorded a .259 hitting percentage, while Neukirchen also reached double-digit kills with 11.
- San Francisco attackers were helped by a match-high 24 assists from Jordan Smart.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco returns to the Hilltop to compete in the USF Challenge; the team's final stretch of nonconference matches. The Dons are set to host Texas Southern on Thursday, Sept. 17, Northern Arizona on Friday, Sept. 18, and California Baptist on Saturday, Sept. 19, at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
