Dons Stay Hot, Defeat Warhawks for Second Consecutive Sweep

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The University of San Francisco (USF) volleyball team (4-3) stayed hot on Sunday as the Dons needed just three sets to beat UL Monroe (2-5) at Global Credit Union Arena, picking up its second straight-set sweep.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco persevered in a back-and-forth first set to win 25-22 in a set that featured six lead changes and 14 ties. Neither team led by more than three points in the set. Katariina Kohornen and Anica Bobic led the way with four kills each in the opening frame.
- In the second set, USF needed a little extra juice to secure the set point, but the green and gold dug deep to take set two, 26-24, and grab a 2-0 lead. The Dons came out on top of a tight set, which included four more ties and two more lead changes.
- The green and gold finished off the Redhawks in set three despite falling behind 5-1 early. San Francisco rallied back to take the lead for good at 15-14 in a set that had just one lead change before the Dons took over. In the second half of the final set, USF poured it on, outscoring the Warhawks 10-4 down the stretch to secure the point and straight-set sweep.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Korhonen had a team-high 10 kills for San Francisco, followed by Petra Fritz with eight and Bobic with seven.
- Emma Neukirchen had team-highs in blocks (5) and aces (2) in the win.
- The Dons got a team-high 14 digs from Laura Amaro. Fritz and Jordan Smart were also close behind with nine digs each.
- USF attackers were helped by a team-high 11 assists from both Smart and Adelynn Legates.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco will travel to Northridge, Calif., next weekend to compete in three matches at The Ridge Invitational. USF will first face Fresno State on Friday, Sept. 11 at 2:00 pm, followed by a 5:00 pm matchup against host CSUN on Saturday, Sept. 12. The Dons will close tournament action with a battle against UNLV at 11:00 am on Sunday, Sept. 13. Live streaming and live statistics will be available via the team's schedule page.
