MISCELLANEOUS: Won the 108th Annual San Francisco City Open at Golden Gate Park in September of 2010... dispatched UC Davis’ No. 1 and world-ranked singles player Gregory Lee… Tu defeated Lee 7-5, 6-4 in the finals... participated in the Men's Professional RBS Bank of Scotland Men's $100,000 Challenger in Tiburon,CA as a WC in the qualifying event in 2009 and 2010.
2011-2012 SEASON: Finished remarkable career, going 18-6 in singles and 11-9 in doubles play.
SINGLES: Went 4-1 in Battle of the Bay classic and defeated No. 84 Damian Hume of No. 38 Boise State University (10/15/11)… posted six-match win streak, including victories against three ranked schools (Boise State, No. 6 Pepperdine, and #13 California)… played in No. 1 position in all but one match, amassing incredible 10-3 record… posted four separate streaks of three-or-more wins.
DOUBLES: Teamed with Mark DeCastro to win first two matches of the season against No. 53 Michigan State and Wichita State… biggest win came against No. 49 Dartmouth College in four sets (9-8) (3/23/12)… played out of the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 positions… went 3-1 in final four matches out of No. 1 position, teaming with William Schumacher.
AT USF 2010-11: Suffered season-ending injury which halted spring season after just one match… turned in strong fall season.
SINGLES: Spent all season at No. 1 singles… stormed to the finals of the Battle of the Bay Classic, falling to No. 1 USC’s No. 24 Ray Sarmiento 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 (10/3/10)… qualified for the round of 32 at the 2010 USTA/ITA Division I Northwest Regional Championships… marched to the quarterfinals of the Gael Classic, posting a 6-2, 6-3 win vs. Nevada’s Stefan Dmitrovic (11/7/10).
DOUBLES: Teamed with Will Schumacher at No. 1 doubles… went 2-1 during the fall season… advanced to semifinals of the Gael Classic, dispatching UC Davis’ top tandem 8-4.
AT USF 2009-10: Made an immediate impact in his first season representing the Green and Gold after transfering from Cal Berkeley.
SINGLES: Competed at No. 1 singles spot for the entire year, posting a sparkling 14-5 dual match record… posted a 4-1 record vs. top-150 singles foes… posted thrilling 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 triumph vs. No. 18 Fresno State’s No. 22 Remi Boutillier in the quarterfinals of the Bulldog Classic (10/3/09)… seized a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 win against UC Irvine’s No. 81 Fabian Matthews (1/31/10)… took a marathon 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-5) victory against Cal Poly’s Jordan Bridge (4/17/10)… won nine consecutive singles contests.
DOUBLES: Teamed with Asaf Cohen at No. 1 doubles and posted a 11-6 record during dual match competition… went 5-2 in doubles vs. top-100 programs… notable doubles result in a 8-6 triumph vs. No. 34 Santa Clara’s top doubles duo (4/3/10)… advanced to the round of 16 in the 2009 Wilson ITA Division I Northwest Regional Championships, falling in hard-fought 8-6 to Stanford’s No. 9 doubles tandem of Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thavcher (10/24/09)… reached round of 16 in the Bulldog Classic… qualified for quarterfinals of the Battle of the Bay Tennis Classic (10/31/09), before bowing to No. 9 Cal 9-8 (5).
AT CAL (SPRING - 2009): Posted a 12-5 dual record in the spring...played primarily at the No. 5 position, earning a 4-2 mark...went 3-2 at No. 4, 4-1 at No. 6 and 1-0 at No. 3...opened the spring with a three match win streak with victories over Spence Medoza (Hawai'i), Youssef El Bouzkouri (Saint Mary's) and Amint Ibar (UCLA)...defeated then-No. 74 Michael Look (UCLA) in three sets...earned a straight-set victory over Alex Moreno of Pepperdine in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament...posted a 19-7 overall doubles record, including going 10-4 during the gual season at the No. 3 spot.
AT CAL (FALL - 2008): Advanced to the singles semifinal at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic... advanced to the singles round of 32 at the Wilson/ITA Northern Cal Championships... picked up three wins at the Land Rover Napa Valley Tennis Classic... won six straight singles matches from Sept. 12 through Oct. 4, and eight of his first nine matches... advanced to the doubles quarterfinal with partner Jonathan Dahan at the Bulldog Classic... took home two doubles wins at the Napa Valley Classic with Bozhidar Katsarov... advanced to the doubles quarterfinal at the Wilson/ITA Northern Cal Championship with Kallim Stewart.
PERSONAL/PREP CAREER: Born in Binh Duong, Vietnam... parents are Son Tu and Anh Chung... has two older brothers; Tommy (25) played tennis for San Francisco and Hein (29) attended Cal State East Bay... named 2005 Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League Rookie of the year... a four-year letterwinner at Alameda High School, he earned team MVP honors three times (2006-08)... NorCal Section doubles champion in 2005 and 2007... NorCal Section singles champion in 2006 and 2008... led his team to the 2007 NorCal Section Championship... on the Alameda HS Honor Roll from 2006-08.
