New USF golf coach Dick Nicolopulos brought instant success to the Hilltop as the Dons won the West Coast Athletic Conference title for the first time in ten years. Prior to his first season at the helm, the USF men's golf team finished ninth during the 1980 campaign and failed to finish in the top half of the league in any of the five previous seasons.
The WCAC championship was held at Walnut Creek Golf Course. The Dons won the team competition with a combined score of 771. USF’s Kevin Cochrane won the WCC individual title with a score of 5 over par, 149 for the two day event.
