SAN FRANCISCO - Going toe-to-toe against the 22nd-ranked team in the country, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team battled San Diego to a 2-2 tie Saturday night from Negoesco Stadium.

With the decision, the Dons are now 4-4-4 overall and 0-0-3 in conference play.

"Really happy with our fight tonight," head coach Chris Brown said. "It was a really entertaining game for the fans. I have a lot of respect for that team. They have won a lot of games. They've been in and out of the top 10, top 15 this year. I love that we scored first. Shout out to Braylon. He's a freshman, getting his second or third start and his first collegiate goal. He was looking really dangerous out there. We went down 2-1 and bounced back, showing good resiliency and character and got a point at the end of the day."

Both teams got on the board in the first half. Braylon Jernigan opened the scoring in the 29th minute, converting on a corner kick in front of a crowd at the goal. Nico Ruiz earned the assist on the tally. The goal was the first of the season for Jernigan.

San Diego answered later in the first half. In the 42nd minute, Devin Zachry slipped a shot past Lucas Jones. Iain Wagner and Luca Fava picked up assists on the goal.

USF brought pressure in the first half, registering 10 shots and forcing 10 saves by USD keeper Lucca Adams.

In the second half, the Toreros took the lead thanks to a penalty kick, but the Dons evened it up in the 64th minute when Ben Brody scored his first goal of the season.

Kaleb Afsari earned an assist on Brody's goal and took five shots, three of which were on goal. Brayden Beason also recorded three shots on goal.

Both teams registered 18 shots. Ten of USF's shots were on goal. There were also nine combined yellow cards.

San Francisco hits the road next Saturday at Denver at 2 p.m. PT at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.
