Mitch Johnson joined the men's tennis staff at San Francisco prior to the start of the 2023-24 academic year.
His journey in the sport, spanning across continents and marked by notable achievements, reflects a lifelong dedication to both playing and coaching. Mitch’s formative years in tennis began in the vibrant tennis hub of Melbourne, Australia. His family later moved to Denver, Colorado, where Mitch continued to hone his tennis skills while embracing new experiences.
His collegiate tennis career began in 2018 at Utah State University, where he spent a season with the men's tennis team. Seeking greater challenges and opportunities, Johnson made the pivotal decision to transfer to the University of San Francisco. Under the guidance of current head coach JT Sundling, Johnson flourished as he spent three seasons from 2020-2022, where he helped propel the Dons to the WCC Tournament.
Johnson's pursuit of excellence extended beyond the court as he earned multiple ITA Scholar Athlete awards and pursued a Master's degree at the University of Denver while also playing on the team there.
Post graduation, Johnson ventured into the professional tennis circuit, competing at various levels while continuing to deepen his understanding and expertise in the sport. His passion for tennis then extended into coaching, where he began to share his invaluable insights while honing his coaching abilities at the prestigious California Tennis Club.
