ZIMMER SELECTED 21ST BY INDIANS
SAN FRANCISCO—Bradley Zimmer can add two final accolades to his college career as he was named to two All-American teams on Wednesday, including being named to Baseball America's All-America First Team.
Zimmer is the first Don to be named a First Team All-American since Scott Cousins in 2006. He was also named to the NCBWA All-America Third Team.
The junior, who was taken in 21st overall by the Cleveland Indians in the MLB First Year Player Draft, was named to the All-West Coast Conference Team for the second time after hitting .368 with seven home runs, 31 RBI, 21 stolen bases and a team-record seven triples. When the Dons played their final game, he was the only player in the nation to be in the top 50 in stolen bases and top 60 in slugging.
From March 8 to April 10, Zimmer put together a 19-game hit streak, which was the longest in the nation at the time. He had multiple hits in 12 of the 19 games and hit a scalding .453.
Zimmer was also the recipient of the Bill Russell Award, which is presented annually to a USF male student-athlete who has distinguished himself in athletic competition.
In his three seasons on the Hilltop, he complied a career .318 average with 14 home runs, 83 RBI, 107 runs, and 43 stolen bases.
