Katuna Signs NLI To Join Women's Basketball

(San Francisco) - Jamie Katuna has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at the University of San Francisco, as announced by head coach Jennifer Azzi Wednesday. Katuna will join the Dons on the Hilltop in the fall of 2011.

 "Jamie is a great leader and a great point guard," said Azzi. "She brings a great knowledge of the game. She has an excellent skill set, she can handle the ball, shoot and she can score. I think she has the leadership qualities that we are looking for from that position."

Katuna, a 5-7 point guard from Longmont, Colo., joins the Dons after an impressive career at Longmont High School. A three-time letterwinner, Katuna averaged 19.5 points, four assists and three steals per game in 2010. For her efforts, she was named the Northern Conference Player of the Year as a junior, en route to leading her team to a 22-4 record and the Colorado State Championship game. She was also named the Longmont Times-Call Player of the Year and was a awarded numerous All-State accolades. As a sophomore, Katuna was named Second Team All-State after leading her squad to a 20-4 record.
 
Also a standout academically, Katuna has earned three Scholar-Athlete nods and is a member of the National Honor Society.
 
Katuna played club basketball with the Colorado Flight, leading her team to numerous championships, including the 2010 Nike Oasis Invitational National Championship. During her two seasons with the club, the team posted a 125-48 record.
