SAN FRANCISCO — The annual Crab Feed for the University of San Francisco Baseball program will feature a special guest this year: San Francisco Giants' broadcaster Duane Kuiper.
This season's crab feed dinner takes place on Sunday, Feb. 13 at St. Anne's of the Sunset. The Dons are thrilled to welcome the voice of the Giants as the keynote speaker for an evening of fun to kick of the 2011 season.
Kuiper played Major League Baseball from 1974-1985. The second baseman was with the Cleveland Indians from 1974-1981 and the San Francisco Giants from 1981-1985. During his playing career, Kuiper hit .271, with 971 hits. He is one of only three players to hit two bases-loaded triples in one game, when he did so against the New York Yankees on July 27, 1978.
After retiring, Kuiper began his broadcasting career. He now spends his time as a radio and television broadcaster for the San Francisco Giants and one half of the very popular broadcasting team of "Kruk (Mike Krukow) and Kuip". Most recently, he is known for his call of the final out in game five of the 2010 World Series that gave the Giants the title.
Kuiper is also known for the television call of Barry Bond's historic 756th career home run, which broke the league's All-Time record. He also made the call for Bond's 715th home run, the one in which Bonds passed Babe Ruth on the All-Time list. Kuiper's voice was used as one of the play-by-play broadcasters for EA Sports MVP Baseball 2003, 2004 and 2005.
