(San Francisco) - USF women's soccer and fourth-year head coach Mark Carr kicked off preseason training for the 2010 season Tuesday. The campaign, which will open Friday, August 20, will be the 25th anniversary of women's soccer on the Hilltop. Tuesday's practice marked the first time the program has trained on the newly installed ProTurf Solutions at Negoesco Stadium.

San Francisco returns 13 letter-winners, including seven starters from the 2009 squad, which posted the highest number of victories for the program in four years. USF finished the 2009 season with a 7-7-5 overall mark and was nationally recognized by Somis Sports as one of the country's most improved programs.

"It's nice to get back out onto the field at Negoesco," commented Carr. "Our entire team came back fit this season, which is great. I am looking forward towards this year, but will truly be excited about it all when the season kicks off next week."

Senior Lauren Maris shared Carr's sentiment and looks forward to her final season on the Hilltop.

"It was awesome to get back on our home field with our team," said the starting forward. "Our team has returned to campus with a lot of energy. It is a lot of fun to be out there on the new field playing as a team."

This year's squad will feature a highly touted group of 10 newcomers, including Christina Moberg. Moberg is one of two freshmen to join the Dons from Norway this season.
"I have really enjoyed my time here so far," said Moberg. It's been hard and challenging – a lot different than back home in Norway. Regardless, I am very excited to be here in San Francisco playing with this team."

The Dons open the 2010 campaign Friday, August 20 when they host Bay Area rival San Jose State at 4 p.m. USF will play its first three matches of the season at home hosting Northern Florida (Aug. 27) and Santa Barbara (Aug. 29) before taking the short trip to Berkeley to face Hawai'i and Rice at the Cal Invitational, September 3 and 5, respectively.
