Tentative 2010-11 USF Women's Basketball Schedule in PDF Format

(SAN FRANCISCO) - First-year University of San Francisco women's basketball coach Jennifer Azzi has announced the 2010-11 schedule, with a marquee match-up against national powerhouse, and NCAA National Championship runner-up, Stanford at War Memorial Gym. The contest against the Cardinal on December 22 will be one of up to a dozen games against opponents that participated in the postseason a year ago.

"I am happy our schedule came together," commented Azzi. "Coach Hardiek did a great job with it and we are excited to get the season started."

The Dons will open the 2010 campaign with one exhibition game on the Hilltop, as USF welcomes Bay Area Division II power Sonoma State to War Memorial Gym, Friday, November 5 at 7 p.m.

USF will kick off the season, Friday, November 12 at 5:30 pm. when it hosts defending Big West Regular Season Champion and WNIT participant UC Davis. Immediately following the match-up with the Dons and Aggies, the USF men's basketball team will open their regular season at 8 p.m. against Seattle. The double-header will be the lone twinbill of the season for San Francisco.

The Dons welcomes Bay Area rival San Jose State to War Memorial Gym Monday, November 15 at 7 p.m. before taking to the road, for eight straight contests away from the friendly confines of the Hilltop.

USF will open the road swing at Cal State Fullerton (Thursday, November 18, 7 p.m.) before traveling to Albuquerque over Thanksgiving weekend to participate in the University of New Mexico Thanksgiving Tournament.

San Francisco will open December with its final road game of the eight-game swing, traveling to Sacramento State for a midweek showdown with the Hornets (Wednesday, December 1, 7 p.m.). USF will then return home for a contest against UC Santa Barbara (Sunday, December 5, 2 p.m.), before hitting the road again for a match-up with Utah State in Logan (Wednesday, December 8, 6 p.m.).

The Dons will welcome Pacific to War Memorial Gym Saturday, December 11 at 7 p.m., before going on the road, again, for a pair of contests. USF will take a short trip south to San Luis Obispo to face Cal Poly (Wednesday, December 15, 4:30 p.m.) before heading east to the Rockies to face Northern Colorado (Monday, December 20, 6 p.m.).

Wednesday, December 22 will mark the highly anticipated match-up against perennial power Stanford, as Coach Azzi and associate head coach Katy Steding, welcome their alma mater to the Hilltop. Under the guidance of current Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer, both Azzi and Steding led the Cardinal to their first national championship in 1990. Following their NCAA title, Azzi and Steding both played for VanDerveer in the 1996 Olympic games, winning a gold medal. Stanford has appeared in 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, including appearing in the past two National Championship games. Game time for the USF Stanford showdown will be announced at a later date.

Following a break for the holidays, the Dons will return home to wrap-up the calendar year hosting a pair of games, including a New Years Eve contest. Academy of Art will make the short trip across The City to USF Wednesday, December 29 at 7 p.m. before the Dons close out 2010 with Mount St. Mary's on New Years Eve at 3 p.m.

The West Coast Conference season will feature no fewer than eight games, against four foes that advanced to the postseason in 2009. Gonzaga leads the charge after earning the WCC automatic bid last season, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen – marking the first team from the conference since USF in 1996 to make a deep run into the tournament. Saint Mary's and Pepperdine represented the conference in the WNIT last season, while Portland played in the inaugural year of the WBI.
