Katrina Hegge Places Fifth; Tinna Johannsdottir Ninth in
2010-11 Dons Debut Event
(Worley, ID) – USF women's golf opened the 2010-11
season with a fifth place finish at the Circling Raven Invitational
ending Tuesday afternoon in the Idaho panhandle. The Dons shot 309
in final round action and could not make a move on the top of the
pack.
Sophomore Katrina Hegge was the top finisher for the Dons in fifth
place at 221 (72, 73, 77), while senior Tinna Johannsdottir (75,
73, 77) captured a share of ninth place at 225. Unfortunately no
other Dons cracked the top-50 in the 20-team field competing on the
par-72 Circling Raven Country Club playing at 6,106 yards.
Hegge share the tournament lead in birdies with 10 and was fifth
overall in par-4 scoring. Johannsdottir led the field in pars with
37, while freshman Peppiina Kaija was in the top-10 in birdies with
eight.
Northern Arizona (302, 299, 304) won the team event in the
tiebreaker against Brigham Young (303, 297, 305) and both teams
finished at 905, five shots in front of third place and tournament
host Gonzaga at 910 (308, 301, 301). Nevada finished fourth at 912
(306, 309, 297) while the Dons (310, 300, 309) and Cal State
Northridge (308, 305, 306) shared fifth place at 919.
San Francisco returns to action when it competes in the Portland
State/Oregon State Invitational, beginning Monday, September 27.
Langdon Farms Golf Course will serve as the site for the two-day
event.
