Bell Caps Monster Amateur Season with More Hardware
(Honolulu, HI) – USF freshman Alika Bell just added more hardware to his already full mantle when he was named the 2010 Hawaii Golf Association State Amateur of the Year. Bell posted three tournament victories, six top-five finishes and eight top-10 showings in nine amateur events in Hawaii during the 2010 season.
"This award demonstrates Alika's success and dedication to golf in Hawaii," USF head coach Rich Yokota said. "His efforts in the islands made him a top prospect all over the West Coast and beyond. USF is grateful for his dedication on the course, and he has also proven to be the type of student-athlete that our University can be very proud."
Bell won the Amatour Hawaii Battle at Klipper, the Barbers Point Invitational and captured medalist honors at the Amatour Hawaii Turtle Bay Season Kickoff Tournament for the second consecutive season in 2010. The reigning Hawaiian State High School golf champion competed in four events during the Fall season at the USF.
"I just played in as many local amateur tournaments as I could in 2010," Bell said. "I was able to place high enough in most, if not all, of the tournaments I participated in. I am very pleased with my performance this past year, but I know it's just the beginning. This is a big honor for me."
A standout in multiple sports, Bell competed in football, basketball, track and golf at Kamehameha High School. Bell won the 2009 Aloha Section Junior PGA Championship, firing a 1-under 69 in the final round and took the hardware in the Hawaii Tournament of Champions at 4-under. Bell posted three top-five showings on the junior circuit.
USF men's golf returns to action when it opens the 2011 Spring Season Wednesday, February 2 at the Hawaii Waikoloa Invitational at the Waikoloa Golf Course.
