(Copper River, CA) – USF women's golf turned in its best day of the 2011 Spring Season Monday in the opening round of the 2011 Fresno State Lexus Classic and sit in second place after shooting a 302 in the second round on the challenging Copper River Country Club. The Dons shot a 36-hole round tally of 611 (309, 302) on the par-72 course playing at 6,072 yards.

San Francisco sits 10 shots back of No. 18 UC Davis. The Aggies shot 601 (295, 306) and were the only team in the field to shoot a sub-300 round.

Sophomore Katrina Hegge owns the overall lead with 18 holes remaining, with a 1-over 145 (72, 73). The Washingtonian holds a one stroke lead on Santa Clara's Miki Ueoka (69, 77) and closed with three birdies on the front nine. Senior Tinna Johannsdottir sits in seventh place at 151 (75, 76), while sophomore Emily Chiu is in a share of 25th place at 157 (81, 76).

Cal Poly is in third place on the team leader board at 613 (306, 307), two shots in front of Portland State at 615 (304, 311). Santa Clara rounds out the top five teams at 617 (303, 314).

Final round of the 2011 Fresno State Lexus Classic will start Tuesday.
