(San Francisco) – USF men's basketball will make its inaugural appearance in the 2011 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout when it takes on Dartmouth Wednesday, November 23 at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, AK. The 34th annual Shootout features eight teams on the men's side, four on the women's and runs through November 27.

San Francisco will play the second game Wednesday, following Murray State meeting tournament host Alaska Anchorage at 5:30 PM (PT) followed by Dartmouth vs San Franciso at 7:30 PM (PT). The men's first round concludes Thursday, November 24, with Central Michigan taking on New Mexico State, followed by UC Irvine vs. Southern Mississippi.

"We're excited about going to Alaska," USF head coach Rex Walters said. "It's obviously a new experience for our guys. Going to Alaska, experiencing that culture, playing some good basketball against good teams in a tournament format – there's a lot of positives to take from it. We haven't been great in cold weather climates and hopefully we can change that trend."

ABOUT THE GREA ALASKA SHOOTOUT:
The Shootout is the longest-running regular-season college basketball tournament in the nation, taking place every Thanksgiving in Anchorage since 1978. More details here: Great Alaska Shootout
