(Provo, UT) – San Francisco opened a tough road trip with a 81-56 West Coast Conference loss to Brigham Young Saturday night at the Marriott Center. The Dons (10-7, 0-3 WCC) struggled shooting the basketball, while the Cougars (14-4, 3-1 WCC) experienced no such problems.

USF shot a season-low .326 (19-58) from the floor and missed its first 16 3-point attempts before finally sinking one in the second half, finishing at a chilly .207 (6-29) from deep. BYU shot at a .537 (29-54) clip, including a dazzling .632 (12-19) from beyond the arc. The Cougars, who took a 6-5 lead in the all-time series against San Francisco, dished 27 assists and committed 14 turnovers in the first league meeting between the two teams.

Junior guard Michael Williams scored a team-high 10 points, while sophomore forward Cole Dickerson added eight points. Junior forward Perris Blackwell added six points to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds.

Brock Zylstra scored a game-high 22 points and made all six of his 3-pointers to pace BYU. Brandon Davies and Matt Carlino each chipped in 12 points for the Cougars.

San Francisco was ice cold from the floor in the opening period, connecting on just .258 (8-31) from the floor and missed on all 14 3-point attempts before the intermission. Trailing 7-6, BYU went on a 25-4 run and took a 42-20 lead into the intermission. The Cougars held the Dons scoreless for 8:45 and sizzled offensively hitting on .615 (16-26) and connected on .700 (7-10) from long distance.

Dickerson led San Francisco with six points in the first half, while three Cougars had nine apiece. BYU had 16 assists and out-rebounded the Dons 21-16 before recess.

San Francisco returns to action when it travels to the East Bay to take on ancient Bay Area rival Saint Mary's Monday, January 9 in Moraga. Tip-off against the Gaels is set for 7:00 PM from McKeon Pavilion in a game televised live on Comcast SportsNet California.
