SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The San Francisco men's and women's cross country teams combined to place six athletes on their respective West Coast Conference All-Academic team, as announced today by the league office.
Headlining the USF men are two runners that maintain perfect 4.0 grade point averages.
Ganbileg Bor, a senior majoring in computer science, and
Gustavo Mena, a junior studying business, both sport unblemished transcripts in their collegiate career. Mena joins this year's WCC all-academic team after earning honorable mention honors in 2011. Joining the pair is senior
Steven Garboden, who carries a 3.91 grade point average in exercise sport science.
Not to be bested by the men, there are two women who also tout 4.0 grade point averages that were tapped for honors. Senior
Laura Suur, majoring in biology, and education junior
Sarah Pearson top the women's WCC all-academic team.
Eva Krchova, a junior majoring in international studies, also made the list with a 3.71 grade point average.
Earning honorable mention nods on the men's all-academic squad are
Charlie Johansen and
Adam Smith.
Alice Baker, Kate Jamoboretz and
Mary Sandri round out the Dons who have been recognized for their outstanding work in the classroom, picking up all-academic honorable mentions.
USF boasts the most student-athletes on both lists and their total of six all-academic selection eclipses all other WCC schools. Coming in second to the Dons is Santa Clara's four total men's and women's honorees.
In order to receive consideration for the 10-person conference all-academic team, each student-athlete must be a sophomore or above in athletic and academic standing, maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a significant contributor to the team.
