Ji Hwan Park Wins Event for Second Straight Year at One-Over 214
(San Diego, CA) – San Francisco men's golf won the 2012 Triumph at Pauma Valley in dominating fashion Tuesday at the Pauma Valley Country Club, finishing with a final round of 290. The Dons cruised to a commanding 26-shot lead against defending champion Central Arkansas.
It was the first time the Dons have captured the Triumph title in six outings as the tournament host.
Senior Ji Hwan Park captured medalist honors in the event for the second consecutive year with a big closing round. It was the fourth career medalist honor for Park, who carded a four-under 67 and finished at one-over 214 (70, 77, 67). In the final round, Park recorded six birdies with four on the front nine and finished the event with eight birdies and an eagle.
Junior Taylor Travis finished fourth at 218 (73, 72, 73), while sophomore James Back was fifth at 219 (68, 73, 78). Freshman Jobim Carlos shared seventh place at 222 (72, 73, 77), two shots in front of senior Mat Miller at 224 (70, 81, 73).
Back led the Dons with 12 birdies, seven coming in the opening round when he fired a three-under 68. Carlos added eight birdies and an eagle.
Central Arkansas finished at 891 (309, 292, 290), seven shots in front of third place British Columbia at 898 (298, 309, 291).
San Francisco returns to action when it competes in the Oregon Duck Invitational. Play begins Monday, March 26 at the Eugene Country Club.
San Francisco opens play in the final round of the event Tuesday. The field will go off with a shotgun start set for 8:30 AM.
