All-American Eva Krchova and Nicole Bowler Earn Record Third Selection; Second Trip for Sophie Curl Selected and First Postseason for All-American Laura Suur

(San Francisco) – Four members of the San Francisco Track and Field squad earned selection to the 2012 NCAA West Preliminary Round as announced today. Junior All-American Eva Krchova and senior Nicole Bowler are set to make their record-setting third appearance at the NCAAs, while junior Sophie Curl qualifies for the second straight year and cross country All-American Laura Suur will make her postseason debut.
Krchova, a two-time NCAA finalist in the 3000 steeplechase makes her third straight regionals trip. The Dons 2012 Anne Dolan Award Winner, presented to USF's top female student-athlete, captured Second Team All-American honors last season in the event. The native of the Czech Republic needed just one attempt during the regular season to qualify and posted the eighth-fastest time in the nation at the 2012 Payton Jordan at 10:02.15.
Bowler looks to wrap up a remarkable career with a flourish and qualify for NCAA Nationals for the first time after coming tantalizingly close last season in the 1500. Bowler will race in the 1500 once again this year after turning in a time of 4:21.44 at the 2012 Stanford Invitational. During the course of her senior season, Bowler held three program records – in the 800, mile and the 5000.
Curl will also race in the 1500 for the second straight year. The Washingtonian posted a personal record in the distance at with a time of 4:23.65 at the 2012 Payton Jordan.
Suur shattered the school record in the 5000 this season and established the U-23 standard for her native Estonia in the process, winning the West Coast Invitational in a time of 16:23.89. The previous program record was 16:36.90.
ABOUT THE 2012 NCAA DIVISION I WEST PRELIMINARY ROUND: The University of Texas at Austin hosts the 2012 NCAA Division I Track and Field West Preliminary Round on Thursday, May 24-Saturday, May 26. The three days of competition take place at Mike A. Myers Stadium and feature some of the nation's premier student-athletes. Qualifying teams and individuals advance to the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on June 6-9, 2012.
