SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Kate Jamboretz paced the women's cross country team and Adam Smith led the men's team in the 2012 USF Invitational at Golden Gate Park on Saturday morning.

Jamboretz ran a 17:55.8 5k to lead the women's team to a third place finish.

“It was an outstanding day for Kate Jamboretz,” Head Cross Country Coach Helen Lehman-Winters said. “I'm really happy with how she performed at the front of our team. The fact that she is running 35 seconds faster than she did last year at this time really shows the strength of our team.”

Smith, who redshirted his freshman season, ran a 25:40 8k after running a 27:01 unattached in last year's USF Invitational. The USF men's team finished third with 114 total points, behind Stanford (19 points) and Cal (36 points).

“Adam's race was the best cross country race of his career,” Lehman-Winters said. “He did an excellent job of measuring the race off, which is something that he has struggled with in the past. He gained momentum today, which will get him going in the right direction this season.”

Aisling Cuffe from Stanford won on the women's side, with a time of 17:08.0.

Four Stanford men led by first-place finisher Tyler Stutzman simultaneously finished together to give the Cardinal a first place team finish. Stutzman finished with a time of 24:45.

Sarah Pearson finished second on USF's women's team and 18th overall with a time of 18:35.3, Maddy Haupert finished 21st (18:41.7), Kailey Ulland finished 35th (18:58.5), and Samantha Hamilton finished 44th (19:15.6).

Gustavo Mena finished second on USF's men's team with a time of 25:43, Jarrett Moore finished 21st (26:05), Charlie Johansen finished 32nd (26:30:10), and Jimmy McManus finished 46th (27:09).

The Dons next meet comes on September 14 at the San Francisco State Invitational at 9:00 a.m.
