STANFORD, Calif. – The San Francisco men's cross country team ran to an impressive fourth place finish in a packed 29-school field in the 39th running of the Stanford Invitational Saturday morning. Jose Madera finished in 18th place overall with a time of 24:51 to pace the Dons in the men's 8k race.

“This was our first 8k as a team and I am pleased with what our men accomplished today,” Head Coach Helen Lehman-Winters said. “We beat all of the teams we were capable of beating and have a lot of room for improvement."

The USF women's team finished 12th overall led by Alice Baker's 20th-place finish in the women's 6k. The Dons sat the majority of their top runners on the women's side, in preparation for the Adidas Wisconsin Invitational on October 12.  Sophomore Kate Jamboretz clocked in with a time of 21:49 to finish 27th overall.

For the men's side it was a momentous day, as the Dons beat the West Region's 12th-ranked school in UC Santa Barbara and also finished ahead of West Coast Conference foes LMU, Santa Clara, Saint Mary's and University of San Diego.

Eric Causey finished within five seconds of Madera to place second on the team and 20th overall with a time of 24:56. Steven Garboden and Ganbileg Bor each finished within the top-40 with times of 25:11 and 25:19, respectively. As a team, the Dons finished with 161 total points.

Stanford's men took the top spot with 34 points led by third-place finisher Joseph Rosa (24:10). John Gilbertson of Master's College took the top spot, finishing with a time of 24:07.

Stanford's women also finished first with an impressive 25 points, placing four of the top five runners in their home race. Kathy Kroeger dusted the field, finishing the 6k in just 20:13.

The Dons will now turn their focus to the Adidas Wisconsin Invitational to be held on Oct. 12 in Madison, Wisconsin.
