DAVIS, Calif. – The San Francisco men's tennis team took to the courts at the UC Davis Aggie Invitational with many Dons seeing their first action of the season – and of their collegiate career.

James Tallman, Thomas Takemoto and Timothy Tan picked up their first singles wins of their USF tennis career. Tallman nabbed a win in the opening round of the Aggie flight, taking down California's Chase Melton 6-4, 2-6, 6-0. Tallman went on to win his second singles match in the tournament to advance to the quarterfinals in the flight. Also in the Aggie flight, Takemoto picked up his first win in the consolation bracket, earning the hard-fought victory over Thomas Hunt (Saint Mary's) 6-2, 6-1, 1-0(4). For both Tallman and Tekemoto, the Aggie Invitational served as their first time to suit up for the Dons.

For Tan, his first win for the Green and Gold came in the ITA California flight, as he defeated Sonoma State's Robert Henry, 6-1, 6-4. He then paired with fellow freshman Christian Brockstedt to win their first match in the Aggie doubles bracket, dispatching Oregon's Jayson Amos & Joey Swaysland, 8-7(3).

The duo went 3-0 in the Dons' opening action of the season at the Napa Valley Collegiate invitational, and followed that up with a 1-1 performance in Davis to stand as the only USF pairing to win their first match in the draws.

"It was a great first tournament for a lot of our players," assistant coach Sean Dizon said. "The conditions in the mornings were tough as winds were extremely gusty, but our players handled them well. We have a few areas we need to work on, but it was a good eye opener for our players to see where we are at."

The Dons return home for next weekend's Battle in the Bay Classic, which will showcase some of the nation's top teams including No. 5 USC, No. 7 Duke and No. 8 Pepperdine. The tournament will be held at the California Tennis Club, Oct. 10-13, with a USF Alumni Night event slated for Friday (RSVP online). For more information, visit battleinthebayclassic.com.
