SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco women's tennis team couldn't parlay its strong performance Saturday into another victory Sunday, dropping a 6-1 contest to rival Saint Mary's at Golden Gate Park.
The Dons (6-4, 0-2 WCC) fell behind the Gaels (7-6, 3-0 WCC) from the outset, as Saint Mary's picked up the first five points of the contest to seal its third conference victory of the year.
Marina Nikolic notched the lone victory on the day for the Dons, downing SMC's Audrey Leitz in the No. 5 slot in the lineup.
“The highlight of the match was
Marina Nikolic, but we got a strong fight from
Milica Hadzi-Tanovic ,” said USF coach
Hilary Somers. “We're trying to work towards everyone playing well on the same day.”
USF enters its busiest stretch of the season next week, playing five matches over a span of eight days, including three consecutive days from March 21-23.
