
First Day Success At The Battle in The Bay

San Francisco, Calif.- The Dons start their first day of competition at the Battle in the Bay Classic with wins in both doubles and singles brackets, leading them with the right momentum for the weekend.
The Dontastic duo of Bernardo Saraiva and Nils Skajaa advanced to the quarterfinals round after defeating David Hsu and Robert Stineman of Stanford, 8-3. Their pursuit for the championship title for the second season in a row will continue Saturday where they will be playing against Alex Hamilton and Sem Verbeek of Pacific at 9:00 AM.
Three student athletes were also successful in singles play for the Green and Gold. Junior, Vasco Valverde served up a win against Stanford's Yale Goldberg in two sets, 6-4, 6-2, advancing him to the round of 16. Nils Skajaa played a rigorous two set match, 6-4, 7-5, to earn his win against Arthur Weber. Bernardo Saraiva, fourth seed in the tournament, defeated Ryoto Tachi of UCLA, 6-4,6-4.
Singles and Doubles play will continue tomorrow for the Dons at The California Tennis Courts starting at 9:00 a.m. with doubles and singles to follow.
