Just the Facts, Ma'am The University of San Francisco women's basketball closes out its regular-season slate on Senior Day against Loyola Marymount, as USF looks for the regular-season sweep, The Dons and Lions might not be done this season, however, as the duo still has the potential to match up in the first round of the WCC Championships Thursday. What 2 Watch 4 USF heads into Saturday's contest with three players producing at least 10 points per game. Taylor Proctor's 13.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game paces the Dons with Zhané Dikes (12.1 ppg), and Taj Winston (10.9 ppg) adding to the USF offense. USF is seeking its first regular-season sweep of Loyola Marymount since 2004-05. Know the Foe - Loyola Marymount The Lions' floor general, senior Hazel Ramirez, leads the team with 15.4 points and 6.3 rebounds a game. Deanna Johnson adds 13.8 points per game and Mackenzie Karins' 9.4 rebounds a night paces the visitors. Loyola Mayrmount is coming off an 88-74 win at Santa Clara to stay in the mix for anywhere from the sixth to the eighth seed in the upcoming WCC Championships. USF & Loyola Marymount - The Series Loyola Marymount leads the all-time series 33-32 USF's record vs. the Lions • At home: 16-13 • Away: 13-16 • Neutral: 3-4 Last win at War Memorial Gym: Feb. 26 2009 - 65-61 Last five: 1-5 • Last 10: 2-8 Current streak: The Dons broke a five-game losing streak to the Lions to start the New Year. USF is seeking a season sweep of Loyola Marymount for the first time since 2008-09. Dons & Lions - Take Two In the first meeting of the season between USF and Loyola Marymount, the Dons were helped by a 19-point outing for L.A.-area native, Taj Winston. The Long Beach native was helped by three more double-digit scoring efforts in USF's come-from-behind victory. The Dons trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half before USF overtook the Lions to earn their first conference win of the season in the first contest of 2014. Pepperdine Remix After a first half battle, the Dons wore down the Waves to notch its fifth conference win of the season. Zhané Dikes finished with a game-high 15 points after an 11-of-12 effort from the line and eight rebounds. Taylor Proctor grinded for 10 points and 11 rebounds, her fifth double-double of the season. |
Bracket Watch - WCC Championships The Dons are currently in eighth in the league standings heading into the final day of the regular season. If the Dons beat Loyola Marymount, the team is guaranteed at least eighth seed in next week's championship. Should USF win and Pepperdine knock off Santa Clara, the Dons will jump to seventh in the standings. With a loss to the Lions, USF will finish as the ninth seed. Dishing and Swishing - Ballin' Brainics Three Dons were tapped for honors on the WCC All-Academic team, headlined by Paige Spietz. The redshirt junior from Brimfield, Ill., was named to the All-Academic team for her 3.38 grade-point average in environmental science. She was joined by Alexa Hardick and Jamie Katuna, who received honorable mention nods. This marks Hardick's second-straight honorable mention selection.
