BERKELEY, Calif. – Two San Francisco sprinting records fell Saturday as the USF women's track and field team opened the spring outdoor season in earnest at the Cal Opener at Edwards Stadium
Kamilah Davis, a redshirt junior from San Jose, Calif., bested her previous record-setting mark in the 100 meter dash, clocking in a 12.27 seconds to come in fourth. Fellow sprinter
Asaundra Dalton took over the school's top mark in the 200 meters, sprinting to a time of 24.97 seconds to take fourth. Davis doubled up on the day and finished the 200 meters in fifth, coming in at 25.17 seconds.
Daryl Phill, a freshman from Tacoma, Wash., notched an individual win in the 800 meters. In her first time on the track in Green and Gold, Phill finished in 2:15.06 as the top competitor in the event.
Two women finished as runners-up in their respective events, as
Maor Tiyouri shattered her previous personal best in the 3,000 meters as she rounded the track in 9:40.32. Junior
Kailey Ulland shaved nearly 15 seconds off her previous best in the 2,000 meter steeplechase as her time of 7:09.31 earned a second-place finish.
The competition was comprised of four area schools, with Stanford, UC Davis and the hosts from California going up against the Dons. As a team, USF finished third overall at the meet.
"It was a beautiful, warm day for track and field at Cal today, and t was nice to get things rolling on the track," head coach
Helen Lehman-Winters said. "We had solid opening outdoor marks for our speed and power events and will continue to build on this over the next couple weeks. We will bring an even larger squad back next weekend at the Aggie Open as we get into the season."
USF will participate in the UC Davis-hosted Aggie Opener event Saturday in Davis, Calif.
